Here's Why Louis Vuitton x Supreme Collab Is The Most Controversial PFW Event

Louis Vuitton just had a Supreme update.

Something major just happened at Paris Fashion Week: Louis Vuitton collaborated with their long-time enemy, Supreme.

For those of you who don’t know, back in 2000, the New York skate brand released a series of clothes and boards bearing the Louis Vuitton logo, to which the fashion house responded with a lawsuit and demanded that all the products be not only recalled by Supreme, but burnt to avoid circulation. Yeah.

So you can imagine the frenzy that broke out at Louis Vuitton’s FW17 show when, from the get-go, the models sported accessories printed with both the brands’ logos.
With its foundations in luggage design, the French label’s classic travel trunks were given a Supreme update in the streetwear company’s signature primary red. Among the designs were backpacks and fanny packs in the same color scheme with the logos writ large across the leather, that are sure to sell out in seconds when the line drops in stores on July 17th.

We can’t help but notice that, since Vetements dropped its SS17 collection featuring no fewer than 18 collaborations with brands like Levi’s and Juicy Couture, every major fashion house has been trying to pull one out of the bag this season: Valentino probably thought it’d be the biggest news story of the circuit with its punk-inspired Jamie Reid collaboration.

The Louis Vuitton x Supreme collab may become one of the most highly-anticipated fashion drops of the year, but it doesn't change the fact that even one of the biggest brands in the world is jumping on the Vetements bandwagon, quite literally taking advice from one of the cult label's early collections that was emblazoned with the words, "May the Bridges I Burn Light the Way".
