There are many things we love about summer: long beach days, evening adventures, glowing tans and beachy hair. One thing we don’t love? How the heat and sun can mess with our skin and makeup. It’s hard to rock your tried-and-true beauty look when you’re sweating bullets. Don’t worry though, you don't have to to give up makeup cold-turkey because of the heat: we have a few tricks up our bell sleeves to help you look and stay fresh even when it's 100 degrees out.
Fed up with your makeup melting off in summer? Check out out top tips and products for saving face in the heat:
Use Lighter Products
The more you wear, the more there is to melt off. If you've caught the sun on your cheeks, you’re already glowing, so skip the foundation in favor of tinted moisturizer or CC cream.
Embrace The Dew
Mattifying products tend to be heavier and thicker than their dewy counterparts. There is every chance they will work for your skin – or they could just as easily slide off your face in the midday sun. Keep a powder compact or blotting papers in your bag, and stick with the aforementioned lighter products.
Get Set
There are some great setting sprays that will hold your makeup in place without feeling like you’ve coated your face in kitchen wrap. Not only do some products have a delightful fresh scent, but that moment of spritzing is utter cooling bliss.
Go Waterproof
Mascara isn’t the only thing prepped for contact with H2O – there are plenty of waterproof concealers and bronzers that will stay in place even if you do start to sweat, too. Clinique’s Lash Power Mascara is a particularly good choice because all of the brand’s products are hypoallergenic and dermatologist-tested. Just be careful to cleanse (or double cleanse) carefully: waterproof makeup requires a heavier touch. Make sure you read the ingredients, too, as some brands use harsh chemicals to make their products waterproof.
Go Semi-Permanent
Instead of swiping on mascara and filling in your brows every day, try tinting. Most places charge less than $50 for the quick procedure, and you’ll look more put-together every day for a few weeks, no matter how humid it gets. Bonus: you can sleep in longer and spend less time putting on your face.
Wear A Little Less
We get it: you have fabulous events to attend, you have a life, you’re a makeup artist, you just love wearing makeup. But no matter the season, it’s important to give your skin a little break and let it breathe once in a while. If you’re going to the beach, gym or running errands, maybe skip your beauty routune for a day. You’re beautiful no matter what!
